01 / THE FOUNDATION

BASE METALS.

MGM Crafts Zinc-alloy die casting material and finish example
01

Zinc-alloy die casting

Intricate shapes. Sculpted relief.

Molten zinc alloy fills a mold, making it a flexible choice for dimensional designs, internal cutouts and complex outlines. Plating and color treatments complete the surface.

Consider for: Coins, pins, keychains and bottle openers.

MGM Crafts Brass & copper stamping material and finish example
02

Brass & copper stamping

Sharp detail. Substantial feel.

Malleable metal blanks are struck with a die to form crisp raised and recessed details. Brass and copper are premium starting points for detailed metalwork and plated finishes.

Consider for: Premium challenge coins, lapel pins and commemorative pieces.

MGM Crafts Iron stamping material and finish example
03

Iron stamping

Sturdy. Economical.

A practical base for promotional work. A suitable protective finish and plating help protect the underlying iron; exposure and wear should be considered when specifying the piece.

Consider for: Promotional pins, trading pins and budget-conscious medals.

MGM Crafts Stainless-steel etching material and finish example
04

Stainless-steel etching

Clean lines. Durable metal.

Etching or laser marking can produce fine surface detail on corrosion-resistant stainless steel. Grade, exposure and finishing affect suitability for the intended environment.

Consider for: Dog tags, nameplates, metal tags and industrial branding.

02 / BRINGING COLOR

COLOR & ENAMEL.

MGM Crafts Hard enamel material and finish example
05

Hard enamel

A smooth, level surface.

Color is filled, cured and polished flush with the metal outlines. Modern hard-enamel processes differ from traditional high-temperature vitreous cloisonné; confirm the requested enamel system with your proof.

Consider for: Premium pins and coins with a smooth finish.

MGM Crafts Soft enamel material and finish example
06

Soft enamel

Raised metal. Recessed color.

Color is applied to the recessed areas after plating and then cured. The metal lines remain raised, giving the surface a tactile feel. A clear epoxy dome is a separate optional treatment.

Consider for: Versatile custom pins, trading pins, medals and coins.

MGM Crafts Screen printing & printed detail material and finish example
07

Screen printing & printed detail

Fine lines and extra color.

Printing adds artwork that is difficult to reproduce with separate molded or filled color areas. Screen printing uses individual color passes; photographic images and gradients may require an appropriate digital-print process.

Consider for: Fine lettering and detailed artwork, subject to substrate and process confirmation.

MGM Crafts Paint filling material and finish example
08

Paint filling

Contrast within the metal.

Colored paint fills recessed areas in struck or cast metal. Gloss or matte appearance, color references and small-detail limits are confirmed in the artwork specification.

Consider for: Classic metal pins, badges and medals.

03 / THE FINAL SURFACE

PLATING & FINISHES.

MGM Crafts Gold & silver plating material and finish example
09

Gold & silver plating

Bright metallic color.

Plated finishes give the base metal its visible color. Specify the desired tone and whether imitation-gold color or precious-metal plating is required; these are different specifications.

Consider for: Awards, presentation medals, badges and challenge coins.

MGM Crafts Antique & black nickel material and finish example
10

Antique & black nickel

Depth and contrast.

Antique treatments darken recessed areas to emphasize relief. Black nickel creates a darker metallic tone and is distinct from an antique finish; compare the options in the production proof.

Consider for: Detailed relief, heritage designs and high-contrast artwork.

MGM Crafts Epoxy coating material and finish example
11

Epoxy coating

A clear, domed gloss.

A transparent resin layer covers the artwork and creates a rounded surface. It is an optional coating, not a substitute for hard enamel. Edge shape and dome coverage need to suit the design.

Consider for: Selected soft-enamel or printed pins and medals.

MGM Crafts Polished & matte surfaces material and finish example
12

Polished & matte surfaces

Reflection or texture.

Polishing gives exposed metal a reflective appearance. Matte or sandblasted areas soften reflection and can contrast with polished relief. Confirm which areas receive each treatment.

Consider for: Contrast between raised artwork, lettering and background fields.

04 / FLEXIBLE MATERIALS

PATCH MATERIALS.

MGM Crafts PVC rubber patches material and finish example
13

PVC rubber patches

Flexible, molded layers.

Flexible PVC supports raised and recessed color regions and resists water. Molded color areas form the main design; printed detail can be added where the chosen production process allows.

Consider for: Bags, outdoor gear, tactical equipment and promotional branding.

MGM Crafts Embroidered patches material and finish example
14

Embroidered patches

Thread, texture and fabric.

Stitched thread gives a traditional fabric texture. Embroidery coverage and thread count affect detail. Chenille adds a plush appearance, while a merrowed border provides a finished edge where the shape permits.

Consider for: Uniforms, jackets, clubs and motorcycle apparel.

05 / FINISH THE PROJECT

THE LAST DETAILS.

Custom shapes & cutting dies

Develop an outline around your artwork. Fine cutouts and sharp corners need a tooling review.
